A Failsworth-born billionaire who is Britain's richest man is set to fail in a bid to become the owner of Chelsea FC, according to the Press Association.
Sir Jim Ratcliffe made an offer of £4.25bn for the Stamford Bridge club on Friday, at the end of a sale process which started when Roman Abramovich was sanctioned for alleged links to Russia's President Vladimir Putin.
Despite its lateness, Sir Jim's bid is understood to have received consideration from The Raine Group, the merchant bank responsible for the sale process.
